    Your accounting software. Xero, Accurate, Jurnal, Zahir, spreadsheets, or a mix.

    How current the books are. The last month that was reconciled to the bank, if you know it.

    Rough volume. About how many transactions a month, how many bank accounts, and how many entities.

    Who does what today. Who keeps the books, who prepares tax, and who runs payroll.

    What prompted the call. A deadline, a new investor or lender, a bookkeeper leaving, or numbers you no longer trust.
