ABOUT LOGIFRAMEQuickBooks Desktop
Intuit has stopped selling most Desktop products to new US customers, and every Desktop release loses its connected services on a fixed date. The software keeps opening after that date, which is why many businesses only notice when payroll or bank feeds stop. Here is what has changed, what happens on your release's date, and how to choose what comes next.
The short version
Dates
Each Desktop release has a date after which Intuit stops its connected services. The pattern has been May 31, three years after release.
| Release | Services ended |
|---|---|
| QuickBooks Desktop 2021 | May 31, 2024 |
| QuickBooks Desktop 2022 | May 31, 2025 |
| QuickBooks Desktop 2023 | May 31, 2026 |
For Desktop 2024 and later releases, check the date Intuit shows for your product in the software or on its discontinuation page. Intuit has adjusted the timeline for its final releases, so the date for your version is the one that counts.
After the date
The application keeps running. The services around it stop.
Payroll tax table updates and Desktop payroll services. Bank feeds and transaction downloads. Online payments and invoice emailing from the software. Security updates. Intuit phone and chat support.
Opening the company file. Entering transactions by hand. Running reports. Your historical data stays where it is.
Payroll is the hard stop. Running payroll on tax tables that no longer update risks wrong withholding and filings, so a business that runs payroll in Desktop needs a plan before the date, not after it.
The decision
Three reasonable answers, depending on which Desktop you are on and how you work.
Plan a move, timed for a month, quarter or year end before your release date. QuickBooks Online is the shortest learning curve. Xero is worth comparing if several people need access or you invoice in more than one currency.
Staying is reasonable. Keep to a supported release, and review the decision when your industry edition, inventory or user needs change.
Move payroll first, since it carries the most risk. Then plan the full move, starting with a clean-up so errors do not travel into the new file.
Whatever you choose, back up the Desktop file and export your trial balance, aging, sales tax and payroll reports before anything changes. Reconciliation history and the audit trail do not convert, so the Desktop file stays your record of them.
